Within the past three years the Alliance has been successful in obtaining over $30 million in cash and in-kind contributions, including a $1 million anonymous donation, $7 million in land contributions, $18.5 million from the DeKalb City Greenspace Bond Referendum, and an additional $3.5 million through former Governor Roy Barnes.
Through the efforts of the Alliance numerous properties contiguous to the nature preserve totaling over 2000 acres have been preserved. Additional properties totaling approximately 1000 acres are currently under negotiations.
In addition to significant fundraising and successful preservation of land, the Alliance with ICON Architects, an internationally respected consultant, have completed the Arabia Mountain National Heritage Area Study. This study supports the bi-partisan effort now underway in Congress to designate Arabia Mountain and its environs as a " National Heritage Area".
This prestigious designation makes this area eligible for technical and financial assistance from the National Park Service (NPS) through the Federal government. Financial assistance may be as much as one million dollars per year for ten years.
The Alliance has also completed an environmental educational outreach package for Arabia Mountain and its environs - "Discover Arabia Mountain". This package includes an educational video, brochures and interpretive signs.
